Immerse yourself in fantasy landscape painting inspired by Japanese art!
This class will look at an eclectic range of scenery painting in Japanese art and contemporary anime for ideas development. In Ukiyo-e literally means "pictures of the floating world" often referring to traditional Japanese woodblock printing and paintings from the Edo period - the artists have a unique way of portraying everyday life juxtaposed with nature's sublime and fantastical. Many examples of artwork convey the passage of time and space, creating an evocative mood in the narrative. Students will look at specific works by two great Japanese masters - Kawase Hasui (1883 – 1957) and Tsuchiya Kōitsu (1870 – 1949) - as a starting point for creating their own fantasy landscape in acrylics and oils.Anime Drawing Workshop for P5 - S3
