Adult Art Classes - Spring and Summer 2025:
Thursday Adult Drawing and Painting Class

Time: 9.30am – 12.30noon
This 4-week landscape drawing and painting class is suitable for all levels of ability. The tutor will take the class to various locations in Linlithgow for outdoor sketching. Sketches will be done using fine liner pen, pencils and colouring pencils. Students will be looking at different views of scenic spots in Linlithgow. Photographs can be taken to serve as aide-memoire for studio sessions. In the 3-hour studio sessions the class will focus on working from sketches and photographs to develop landscape paintings using watercolours and inks, and or acrylics. You can bring along photographs of other landscape locations if you prefer for the studio painting sessions. For lesson 1, please bring along a sketchbook, a fine liner pen, 2B or 3B pencil, eraser and colouring pencils. All art materials are provided in the studio sessions.

Topics covered: illustration, collage, figure drawing and painting, landscape and still life and clay modelling. Tutor provides art demonstrations in every lesson with art materials and techniques explained in a fun and engaging way. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of art materials such as soft pastels, oil pastels, air-drying clay, watercolours, gouache, acrylics, ink and artist quality inktense pencils.

This class is engaging, providing students with a short “art school” experience. Professional grade Artist materials will be used in this course. The tutor provides students structure and guidance, working with water-based paints, oil paints, monoprinting techniques and a range of quality drawing mediums such as Conté pastel pencils and Derwent Inktense pencils. The tutor will introduce the lesson with a theme and discuss contemporary and historical artist’s work for ideas and inspiration. Individual tuition and art demonstrations will also be given.

In this workshop, the students will receive comprehensive instruction in illustration skills with a focus on drawing Anime style. The tutor will cover various aspects, including colour rendering techniques, unique styles, dynamic poses, fashioning clothing, and the art of character creation.

This class we will discover and discuss Yayoi Kusama's life, her motivation and her art. The tutor will guide your child through the process of creating their own unique painting inspired by Yayoi Kusama. Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who is sometimes called ‘the princess of polka dots'. Although she makes lots of different types of art – paintings, sculptures, performances and installations – she has become known for the one thing they have in common, DOTS! Booking and payment is done on a first come first serve basis on the website: www.linlithgowartschool.co.uk
Places are subject to availability. Full payment is required to secure the place.
If you have a gift voucher credit, you can use a voucher redeem code.
For those wishing to purchase gift vouchers. Please check the lesson dates with the availability of the recipient. Classes are usually on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Cancellation Policy
No refund for cancellation. Payments are not transferable.
If the tutor cancels a class(es), full refund will be provided for the cancelled session(s).
Code of Conduct
All students are required to show respect to the tutor, fellow students, and the art materials, and maintaining a positive attitude within the art class environment. Deliberate damages to art equipment, aggression, use inappropriate language or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated. Three warnings will be given, thereafter the student’s place will be forfeited, and remaining lessons will not be refundable or transferable.
After-school pick-up for Linlithgow Primary School children attending the art class
Please hand-in one note to the class teacher at the start with all class dates and permission for Elaine (Art Tutor) to collect your child in front of Linlithgow Primary School’s mosaic mural at the end of the school day. For P1 and P2 children, a parent/ carer may need to help with bringing the child from the infant playground to the mosaic mural (please discuss with the tutor).
